Luxembourg in numbers
Where Luxembourg stands among the 27 EU member states on income, jobs, prices and inequality, and who lives there. Every figure is a link to the Eurostat table it was read from; where Eurostat publishes nothing, the page says so.
Reading Luxembourg's numbers
- Luxembourg's GDP is produced partly by workers who live in France, Belgium and Germany and commute in, but GDP per head divides it by residents only. The per-head figure is therefore far above what the resident population earns.
- The foreign-citizen share is the highest of the countries compared on this site, because a large part of the resident population holds another EU citizenship; see how the share is calculated on the comparison page.
- Luxembourg's small size makes some survey-based rates (unemployment, poverty) move more from year to year.
- Eurostat flags the latest Luxembourg figure as a break in the time series for: Income inequality (Gini); Top fifth earns this many times the bottom fifth; At risk of poverty; At risk of poverty or social exclusion (2025). The figure was measured differently from the years before it, so the change from the previous year is not a like-for-like movement.
- Eurostat flags the latest Luxembourg figure as estimated or provisional, so it may be revised, for: GDP per head; Economic growth; GDP per head, adjusted for prices; Statutory minimum wage, adjusted for prices (2025, 2026-S2).
