Malta in numbers
Where Malta stands among the 27 EU member states on income, jobs, prices and inequality, and who lives there. Every figure is a link to the Eurostat table it was read from; where Eurostat publishes nothing, the page says so.
Reading Malta's numbers
- Malta is the smallest member state by population. Survey-based rates (unemployment, poverty, income inequality) rest on small samples and move more from one year to the next than they do in larger countries.
- The foreign-citizen share counts residents by citizenship, not by birthplace: a resident born abroad who has naturalised counts as a citizen, so the share is not a count of people born abroad.
- GDP growth is volatile for the same reason: a single sector can shift the national total.
- Eurostat flags the latest Malta figure as estimated or provisional, so it may be revised, for: House prices; Statutory minimum wage, adjusted for prices (2025, 2026-S2).
