People in Cyprus

Two different questions, two different answers. Citizenship is the passport a person holds and can be acquired or lost. Country of birth is where they were born and never changes. Neither tells you when somebody arrived, what their residence status is, or what they believe.

At the 2021 census, Cyprus counted 923,381 people, broken down below by citizenship.

Population by

Citizenship, by country. Legal citizenship by individual country of citizenship, at district level. Not country of birth: a person can hold Cypriot citizenship and have been born abroad, or hold a foreign citizenship and have been born in Cyprus. Citizenship can be acquired; birthplace cannot.

“Other countries” is the publisher’s catch-all; “Not stated” is people who did not answer. Neither is redistributed across the other rows or treated as zero.
