Methodological caveats
Census of Population and Housing 2021, reference moment 1 October 2021. Enumerated population (de facto), which is NOT the same concept as the annual de jure population series (table 1820010E) and the two must not be charted on one axis. Coverage is the government-controlled area only: there is no Keryneia district and the Ammochostos and Lefkosia district figures exclude the areas not under the effective control of the Government of the Republic. CYSTAT footnote on this table: the category "Cypriots" also includes persons who declared Cypriot as their SECOND citizenship. "Citizenship group" is legal citizenship only — it says nothing about country of birth, ethnicity, religion or migration history.
