- 10924
- Indicator
- Population by citizenship, 1 January
- What is counted
- De jure population stock at 1 January, by citizenship (aggregate category, not individual country — see the dataset caveats) and age band, as supplied to Eurostat by the reporting country (table migr_pop1ctz).
- Statistical concept
- De jure (usual resident) population, stock at 1 January
- Geography
- Cyprus (country)
- Period
- 1 January 2024 (2024-01-01 to 2024-01-01)
- Age band
- Total (TOTAL)
5-year age bands plus published overlapping super-bands, as used by Eurostat migr_pop1ctz. The super-bands overlap the 5-year bands, so the bands are never summed together. - Nationality
- Total (TOTAL)
The aggregate citizenship categories Eurostat publishes in migr_pop1ctz for these countries: reporting-country citizens, foreign/stateless, EU and non-EU splits under several historical membership vintages, and candidate-country groupings. No individual foreign countries appear in this scheme. - Value

Methodological caveats
De jure population stock at 1 January, as the reporting country supplies it to Eurostat: the figure is that country's own, published through Eurostat, so it is never independent corroboration of its national population series. It is a different concept from a census enumerated population and from an end-of-year series, with a different reference moment, so it is never charted on the same axis as either. Citizenship is published in broad groups: citizens of the reporting country, foreign and stateless citizens split into EU27 and non-EU27 foreign citizens, and a set of historical EU, EFTA and candidate-country aggregates, with individual foreign countries for some countries and years. The EFTA and candidate-country groups are subsets of non-EU27 foreign citizens, not additional parts, and are never summed into a total. The published parts match the total closely but not always exactly (EU27 2024: a residual of 83,822 people, an artefact of summing 27 national tables), so no reconciliation is asserted unless it is stated for a specific country. For Cyprus this is republished by Eurostat from a CYSTAT submission: it is CYSTAT's own figure passed through, never independent corroboration of any other Cyprus population series, and a different concept from both the 2021 census enumerated population and the CYSTAT end-of-year de jure series. Cyprus citizenship is published here only at aggregate level: Cyprus reports no individual foreign countries in this table for any year 1998-2025. Citizens plus foreign and stateless equal the total, and EU27 foreign plus non-EU27 foreign equal foreign and stateless, both exactly for Cyprus (2024: 734,380 + 231,985 = 966,365; 98,320 + 133,665 = 231,985). Foreign-citizen share in 2024: Cyprus 24.0%, EU-27 9.6%, Malta 28.1%, Luxembourg 47.2%, Ireland 15.3%, Greece 7.1%. Eurostat flags a break in this country's time series for this indicator in 1 January 2010: values on either side of a break were not measured the same way, so the change across it is not a like-for-like movement.
